#TechTalk: What the Surface Learns, the Air Must Answer

April 29, 2026

In converting and packaging, performance starts at the surface.

Corona, Plasma, and Flame Treatment increase surface energy, enabling stronger adhesion for printing, coating, lamination, and extrusion. The result: better print quality, stronger bonds, and more consistent product performance.
But every gain on the surface creates new demands in the air.

As production speeds rise and processes scale, solvent use increases, dryer loads intensify, and VOC-laden exhaust streams become more complex. At the same time, Corona and Plasma systems naturally generate ozone (O₃) as a byproduct of electrical discharge.

Surface performance and air emissions are now directly connected.
That’s why environmental control can no longer sit at the end of the line—it must be part of process design.

At Ship & Shore Environmental, we engineer integrated air pollution control systems built around real production conditions.

Our Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTOs) deliver up to 99%+ VOC destruction efficiency while recovering thermal energy to reduce fuel consumption and operating costs. Designed for variable solvent loading, they maintain stable performance across changing production demands.

For Corona and Plasma applications, ozone management is equally critical. Our Ozone Destruct Units safely convert ozone back into oxygen before release, protecting equipment, improving workplace safety, and ensuring compliance. In advanced configurations, ozone destruction can be integrated directly into the RTO—combining VOC and ozone control in one efficient system.

Supporting these technologies, we also design custom air handling and ducting systems that balance airflow across presses, coaters, laminators, extrusion lines, and drying ovens—ensuring stable capture and optimized system performance.

Every system is engineered using real solvent loading, airflow behavior, and full process mapping, removing guesswork and improving long-term reliability.
Surface Activation → Processing → Drying → VOC & Ozone Capture → Emission Control

Because when the surface evolves, the air must evolve with it.
