Ashes to ashes, dust to electricity? Can you say sand power?

How Sand Makes Electricity

How many people would believe that something the size of an average milk carton could produce enough electric energy to supply the average American home? Believe it or not, in 2010 a professor announced the launch of his invention claiming to do just that. What would you expect to find inside of this magic power box? Fuel cells with ceramic tiles and proton membranes divided by metal catalyst plates.

The main ingredient of the this power box innovation is common beach sand!!  Sand is the material used to create the ceramic tiles that are stacked in small blocks within the power box. These ceramic tiles are coated with special green and black inks that are made from a secret formula. A cheap metal alloy is used instead of platinum for the catalyst in this fuel cell technology. Methane and oxygen are injected slowly into the small power generating box and as the whole thing boils up to a thousand degrees it actually produces enough electric power to light up a coffee house.

A lot of agencies and companies are already using this technology including the CIA, San Francisco airport, and even Google. There are also many projects in the testing stage. K.R. Sridhar is the brain behind this astonishing technology. He said that “In the near future, it is poised to lower the prices of these tools. The smallest one may be lower the US $3,000.”
