pavement eats smog

The scientists of the Netherlands have done it again! Did you know that installing unique air purifying pavement can cut down air pollution by almost fifty percent?

Researchers have begun to study these pavements over the recent years. They have used paving blocks sprayed with titanium oxide (photocatalytic pavement), which has the capability of removing pollutants from the air. Not only that, but the titanium turns these pollutants into less harmful chemicals as well. At the Eindhoven University of Technology, researchers took measurements of activity levels in the pavements for an entire year. Scientists found that the streets prepared with smog-devouring paving blocks, minimized nitrogen oxide air pollution by up to 45% in most weather conditions. Although the power of photocatalytic surfaces have been known for several years; our chemical engineers have only recently begun to realize the increasing benefits of photcatalyic surfaces in majority of the world.
