Among available abatement solutions, Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTOs) remain the industry benchmark for VOC control in packaging applications. RTO systems are specifically designed to handle high airflow rates with low to moderate solvent concentrations, making them ideal for printing and laminating exhaust streams. Through high-temperature oxidation, VOCs are converted into carbon dioxide and water vapor, achieving destruction efficiencies exceeding 98–99%.
A key advantage of RTO technology lies in its thermal regeneration process. Ceramic media beds capture and reuse heat from the exhaust stream, enabling thermal efficiencies of up to 97%. This significantly reduces auxiliary fuel consumption and lowers overall operating costs. Additionally, modern RTO systems incorporate advanced PLC-based controls and HMI interfaces, ensuring consistent performance, process stability, and ease of maintenance.
As sustainability expectations continue to rise, the packaging industry is increasingly adopting low-VOC materials such as water-based and solventless systems. However, for operations where solvent-based processes remain essential, high-efficiency air pollution control systems are critical.
