Long Beach, CA, April 3rd, 2018- Ship & Shore Environmental Inc., a leading U.S. pollution abatement firm, announced today that it will expand its services to supply equipment, installation and startup on flaring services. Ship & Shore’s innovative technology reduces gas emissions in a safe and controlled environment while increasing operational efficiency and minimizing harmful environmental impacts.
“Flaring has proven to be an effective technology for the disposing of gases that cannot be used otherwise. Different flaring techniques are utilized in the industry, depending on the local environmental regulations, site requirements and process needs. We are receiving an increase in the amount of current and potential clients who are seeking advice on selecting the proper flare equipment and services that will be safest for the environment. With our various technologies, they are able to meet the most stringent site-specific requirements while complying with strict environmental standards,” said Anoosheh Oskouian, CEO of Ship & Shore Environmental, Inc.

“Flaring is done by burning off the gases or liquid into the atmosphere. Burning a gas/liquid into the atmosphere can be environmentally friendly if done properly. It is often carried out for safety reasons. The gases/liquids to be combusted are usually rich in heat content and can self-sustain the combustion without the need for additional external combustion gas. Flare technologies offer tradeoffs between equipment cost, operating expenses, design complexity and process requirements,” adds Anu Vij, COO of Ship & Shore Environmental Inc.
Before a flare type is selected, it is important to understand the environmental regulations in a given geographic area and the impact on the process. Improper flare applications can lead to poor performance and also negative environmental impacts, which can result in significant cost and legal implications. S&SE provides the latest technology to avoid such impacts to the environment.
Safety Considerations
The primary safety concern for flares is thermal radiation. Special consideration must be given to thermal radiation for flares that are located close to the boundaries of chemical manufacturing sites. Safety regulations are followed by S&SE plant operations to ensure that flares are operated in safe zones in a safe manner. Often this is accomplished by increasing the flare height or putting restrictions across the area as a low-access area. Enclosing the flares is another way of limiting radiation in plants that have limited area for use.

Smokeless or low NOx flares are sometimes desired in areas that are environmentally sensitive. In these instances, S&SE used air -assisted or steam assisted flaring to convert the flares to smokeless. Combustion gases from flares that mix with the indoor air can cause serious issues when inhaled; therefore, adequate ventilation is sought for facilities that are located close to the flares. Since radiant heat can be minimized if the flare is located at a safe distance from buildings and office spaces, it is important to have enough space available in case of any mishaps.
