“When I first started my company more than 20 years ago, there were times when I used to visit facilities and see absolutely no women on the manufacturing or production side, unless they were someone’s assistant,” she explains. “The gender inequality was so present that it got to the point where I was mistaken for the receptionist rather than the owner of the company. Naturally, that inequality has improved and gender equality is slowly becoming more apparent throughout the industry as more women are being employed. 

“Being that S&SE is woman-owned, we are constantly empowering young women and girls to break any gender barriers that may exist in the industry and to pursue careers as an engineer. And now that automation is more wide-spread, the traditional gender gap seems to be getting smaller.”
