Delta Air Lines is the world’s first legacy airline to achieve a successful verification of its greenhouse gas emissions inventory by SCS Global services (SCS). It used the most trusted methodology for measuring greenhouse gas emissions that followed up with the climate registry’s general reporting protocol.

‘Delta is taking a leadership role in the aviation sector by setting a baseline for its GHG emissions and committing to reduce these emissions,’ said Dr. Robert J. Hrubes, Executive Vice President of SCS Global Services. ‘We conducted a rigorous audit of Delta’s GHG emissions, which included jet fuel combustion, electricity usage, refrigerants and other emission sources.’

‘We’ve made significant strides to reduce our GHG emissions and are pleased to now be a part of an organization that verifies and validates our commitment,’ said Ken Hylander, Delta’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Safety, Security & Compliance. ‘Increased transparency is a significant part of Delta’s efforts to build a business model that continually improves sustainability over the long term, which is why we support consistent and transparent standards to calculate, verify and publicly report greenhouse gas emissions.’

Delta airlines is the second carrier worldwide to comply with the requirements of registry, joining Virgin America in achieving verification.
