Successful Delivery of a 23,000 SCFM Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer by Ship & Shore Environmental, Inc.

We are excited to share a significant milestone achieved by Ship & Shore Environmental, Inc. This May, we successfully delivered and commissioned a 23,000 SCFM Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) in Sidney, Ohio. This installation underscores our commitment to providing innovative and effective air pollution control solutions to industries worldwide.

The state-of-the-art RTO is specifically designed to treat emissions from a new metal coating and painting application. This process includes primer coating, rubber coating (AEM, NBR, FKM), and adhesive coating, which are essential for the production of gaskets and brake shims. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, this RTO efficiently abates volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) from the coating processes.

Celebrating the Printing Industry: Record Number of Deals Signed at drupa 2024

drupa 2024, the world’s No. 1 trade fair for printing technologies, came to a successful close on June 7 after eleven days in Düsseldorf, Germany. It impressively demonstrated the progress of an entire sector and demonstrated the operational excellence of the industry.

Sustainability in the packaging industry – an opportunity and a must

What impact does the topic of sustainability have on processes and business models in the packaging industry? In an interview at Interpack 2023, we spoke with Adrian Ritzhaupt of Mosca. The topic of sustainability has long had an impact on the business models and business processes of the packaging industry. Already 10 years ago, Mosca started to use 100% recycled material for its packaging products.

The future of sustainable printing How AI revolutionised the printing and packaging industry

Sustainability is not a trend, but a revolution of all industries and business sectors. It is now driving our decisions and actions. Across industries, companies are looking for innovations that reduce their environmental footprint on an almost daily basis. With artificial intelligence, we can automate our process to become a sustainable and responsible company.

This Month at Ship & Shore Environmental

Below please find some recent updates on our work!

Ship & Shore Service Department Keeping Customers On-Line

Keeping air pollution control equipment operating to regulatory expectations requires routine maintenance and care.  Generally this is manifested in a comprehensive Preventive Maintenance Program.  In addition to the recommended day to week to monthly checks on your equipment as highlighted in the maintenance manual, Ship & Shore recommends a yearly Preventive maintenance inspection by a qualified SSE technician.

Preventive Maintenance starts with an in-house review of your oxidizer and process diagram followed by an audit of the system’s operation. Customers receive a detailed report with recommendations for improving performance, reliability, and safety, upon completion of the inspection service.

S&SE PM Inspections are broken down into the following categories but may vary based on type of equipment and model:

  • Internal & External Mechanical Inspection
  • Electrical Inspection
  • Process Control Analysis
  • Check Critical Parameters
  • Spare Parts Inventory

At Ship & Shore Environmental, Inc., we are always committed to provide our customers with our best services available, either in troubleshooting or in new designs to increase the capacity of the unit to adapt to new production environments.

Utilizing Permanent Total Enclosures (PTEs)

The control of VOC emissions greatly benefits air quality and ultimately benefits our well-being.  Compounds contributing to smog and potential cancer causing agents are collected and then destroyed before they can have an effect on the environment.

Conversations traditionally center on the destruction efficiencies of destruction equipment installed.  However, more focus should be placed on the maximum collection of emissions that ultimately are treated in thermal oxidizers.

Permanent Total Enclosures (PTEs) are routinely used to maximize the collection of fugitive emissions produced from production processes. In most circumstances, the use of a PTE enables the claim of 100% collection or containment of emissions.  But the design of a PTE must consider a number of factors to meet federal regulations.  Some of these include – proper air flow and ventilation, temperature, worker permissible exposure limits, lower flammable limits, lighting, and access to maintenance equipment.  Construction can include hardscape walls, insulated panel, plastic curtains, see thru panels, etc.

Ship & Shore has designed numerous PTE enclosures to satisfy regulatory requirements, while minimizing air volume and increasing solvent load for cost effective thermal oxidizer purchase and operation.

Fragrance or Odor…

Many people are surprised to learn that seemingly innocent production operations need to be abated based on regulatory regulations. A good rule of thumb has always been, one person’s fragrance is another person’s odor. Two classic examples are bread baking operations and coffee roasting operations. For most, these are truly pleasant fragrances with occasional exposure … for MOST. However, day to day exposure to these emissions can create nuisance issues.

Upon taking a closer look at these operations, each of them has the potential to emit regulated and health concerning emissions. In the case of coffee, exposures to VOCs during roasting, packaging, grinding, and flavoring coffee can negatively impact the respiratory health of workers and local residences. Baking and fermenting operations emit ethanol. Depending on the size of these operations, (large industrial facilities) potential mandatory abatement is needed.

So use this as FOOD or DRINK for THOUGHT as incorporation of artificial flavorings, perfumes, animal rendering facilities, or odors of any kind may need control.

Illinois Passes Comprehensive Law Governing Carbon Capture, Utilization and Sequestration Projects in Illinois

Illinois legislature passed comprehensive carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration (CCUS) legislation. CCUS involves the capture of carbon dioxide directly from ambient air or uses processes to separate carbon dioxide from industrial or energy-related sources, either for use or for underground injection for long-term storage.
